Note: “Needs Milk” is a reimagined authentic Lithuanian folk tale. The illustration and contemporary translation are excerpted from M. M. De Voe’s forthcoming novel The Boy Who Loved Trees.


Edita Suchockytė is a visual artist and book illustrator who lives in Lithuania. Her gallery is in the famous Užupis artist area of Vilnius. Edita has held solo shows in Canada, across the United States, the Netherlands, France, Australia and Germany.



M. M. De Voe has won multiple writing awards, most recently a Shirley Jackson Award for the 2020 anthology A Twisted Book of Shadows in which her story ‘Cake’ appears. Her short fiction and poetry are widely published. De Voe is a first-generation Lithuanian-American born in Texas and raised by novels. Website: Twitter: @mmdevoe
