Andrew Reeves
I laid static in a room
and listened to time collect
in the corners. Numb,
I knew how to wake up.
I knew how to hit an alarm
clock. I could slit an envelope
without a shiver—or even, say, cut
a pear or sweep up
strands of hair. I got so good
at shedding. My body
will no longer do
what I tell it to. Now
morning drawer, what use am I
to you—if not to empty
and keep refilling—
