Third Way
Marj Hahne
———after James Galvin’s “Three Sonnets”
Where I love—–honesty is the primal fact
The world is mostly—–hidden & asleep
turning in & out of the light—–like a moth
whose spiraling may have—–nothing to do with being
dazzled so guess again—–unless you cherish mystery
Lawrence Ferlinghetti is dead—–in San Francisco
where I left my heart in 1988—–Let a new lyricism
save the world from itself—–say what the heart means
Sometimes a man—–at the top of the stairs
is all it takes—–to bring out the girl in me
to rise two steps—–at a time
almost colliding into—–the perfect moment
What’s hard & soft—–& something else
& someone else—–breathes there
